GBA Client is Awarded $3.29M in Federal Funds to Support their Community Mental Health Center

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

Gary Bess Associates (GBA) is pleased to announce that Easter Seals of New Jersey (ESNJ) has been awarded a grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), supporting Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) across the nation. SAMHSA’s goal is to help CMHCs restore the delivery of clinical services that were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and to effectively address the needs of individuals with serious emotional disturbance (SED), serious mental illness (SMI), and those with co-occurring disorder (COD). The grant proposal, which GBA assisted in drafting, resulted in more than $3.29M to be allocated over two years to support ESNJ’s CMHC, called CenterPath Wellness. CenterPath Wellness has provided for more than 70 years mental health, addiction, and wellness and recovery services, including an adult partial care program. The adult partial care program is a unique model of care, not widely available. It offers a therapeutic day program for seriously and persistently mentally ill adults with a focus on promoting wellness and maximizing independence.

ESNJ’s CMHC services and CenterPath Wellness were severely impacted during the pandemic. The adult partial care program, which is an in-person intervention Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm, was among the hardest hit. CenterPath Wellness utilized telehealth and other innovative strategies to maintain continuity of care, and, in fact, it was the only partial care program in the state offering at least some telehealth services. With SAMHSA’s CMHC funding, ESNJ can begin to restore CenterPath Wellness’ services as they transition in Union County, New Jersey to in-person, on-site care for individuals with SMI, SED, and COD. GBA is proud to have assisted this worthy organization in obtaining federal funding to enhance its programs. ESNJ was one of 231 grantees to receive SAMHSA’s CMHC funding.
