Gary Bess Associates (GBA), a nationally renowned grants and organizational development consulting firm, is hiring an experienced grant writer to work remotely in a busy, deadline-driven environment. GBA for more than 30 years has been a leader in grant writing and project management, strategic planning, and program evaluation for nonprofit and public health and human services agencies, the majority of which are private healthcare organizations, most notably federally qualified health centers (FQHCs).

The incumbent grant-writing candidate will be expected to provide grant writing resource development, including preparation of grant proposals – from initial concept to final version, working with CEOs/executive directors, finance and medical managers, and other management staff to find potential funding opportunities through private and public agencies, and often under tight deadlines. Duties, in addition to analyzing funding opportunities and planning, organizing, coordinating, facilitating and submitting proposals for organizational clients, include the provision of grant reporting/compliance and general grant development consultation.


Grant Writer Job Duties (Remote Work)

  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities, task ownership, and target dates for information gathering, writing, reviewing and approval.

  • Prepare a workplan and checklist that lists the tasks required to create the proposal, such as content, forms, attachments, data tables and maps.

  • Develop proposal by assembling information including project objectives / outcomes / deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation; writing, revising, and editing drafts including abstracts or summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.

  • Maintain quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases.

  • Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate; implementing changes.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; maintaining personal networks.

  • Accomplish company goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Skills and Qualifications to Possess or Learn

  • Presentation skills, written communication, technical documentation, layout skills, problem solving, deadline-oriented, process improvement, coordination, strategic planning, budget development, and ability to multitask.

Education/Experience Required

  • College degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated proposal writing and project management, or proposal coordination experience.

  • Three to five years of experience in grant writing.

  • Previous experience in grant compliance and reporting a plus.

  • Experience working with request for proposals (RFP), interpreting application structure and requirements.

  • Background in creating and sustaining business relationships and providing excellent customer service.

  • Proficient understanding in business and financial analysis.

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office – Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.

  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and deadlines.

  • Ability to analyze and convert strategic and operational issues into opportunities that achieve the goals of the business.

  • Excellent written/verbal interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a broad and diverse group of clients, peers and staff.

  • Excellent research skills and the ability to write persuasively and articulately.

  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge of work environment and client organizational needs and key performance indicators.

  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

  • Highly motivated, customer-focused, positive and enthusiastic attitude.
